Alexander was born on October 7th, 1829 in Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, USA.1   Alexander's father was John C Younkin and his mother was Kathleen “Jane” Connelly (Younkin).  His paternal grandparents were Frederick G Younkin and Catherine Patton (Younkin). He had a brother and six sisters, named Moses, Kate, Elizabeth, Jane, Agnes, Pertenah and Rosabelle.  He was the seventh oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 87 on February 5th, 1917 in Mercer, Mercer County, Missouri, USA.  He was buried on February 7th, 1917 at the Goshen Christian Church Cemetery, Mercer County, Missouri, USA.1 1 

Alexander's family

Alexander and Elizabeth were married in a religious & civil ceremony on December 14th, 1856 in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, USA.1  They had seven sons and three daughters, named Isaac, John, Sylvester, Lucian, Orville, Thomas, Benjamin, Jane, Laura and Mary.
