August's father was Johann Rohl and his mother was Anna Christina Sprecher (Rohl). His maternal grandparents were Christian Albrecht Sprecher and Carolina Fischer (Sprecher). He had a brother and three sisters, named Johann, Sophia, Sophia and Louise. He was the second oldest of the five children. He died at 6 months old on April 17th, 1874 in Leipzig (Leibzig), Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine).¹
