Brooks was born in February 1900 in Salt Lick Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.1  Brooks' father was John S Miller and her mother was Eliza Pritts (Miller).  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Harbaugh Miller and Mary Shumar (Miller); her maternal grandparents were Samuel W Pritts and Susanna Miller (Pritts). She had four brothers and four sisters, named Frank, Thomas, Horatio, Smith, Carrie, Etta, Blanche and Beulah.  She was the eighth oldest of the nine known children.  She died at the age of 14 in 1914.  She was buried in Sparks Cemetery, Saltlick Twp, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.1 1
