John was born on May 18th, 1825 in Bramhope, Yorkshire and his baptism took place on June 19th, 1825.1 John's father was John Hargraves and his mother was Mary. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Hannah and Harriet. He was the youngest of the five children.
