Susannah was born in 1818 in Lindley, Yorkshire and her christening took place on May 24th, 1818 in Stainburn, Yorkshire.1   Susannah's father was John Coates and her mother was Ann Snell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Coates and Elizabeth Petty; her maternal grandparents were Richard Snell and Mary Mountain. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, John, Jonas, Francis, Richard, William, Thomas, Mary, Jane, Anne, Grace and Martha.  She was the youngest of the thirteen children.  She died as a result of cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 64 on March 13th, 1882 in Lupton's Fold, Moor Side, Armley, Leeds, Yorkshire.2
