Edith was born on August 21st, 1909 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England.  Edith's father was Joseph Collinson and her mother was Annie Winstanley.  Her maternal grandparents were James Winstanley and Marie-France. She had a sister named Freda.  She was the older of the two children.
