Ada was born in 1876 in Ashfordby, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.1  Ada's father was James Henry TRANTER and her mother was Ann FAIRBROTHER.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel TRANTER and Amelia NICHOLS. She had three brothers and a sister, named Albert, Henry, Peter and Ellen.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
