Иосиф was born in 1783.  Иосиф's father was Лаврентий Никифоров Хрущ and his mother was Дария Иосифова (Хрущ).  His paternal grandparents were Никифор Феодосиев Хрущ and Евфимия Иаковлева (Хрущ). He had two brothers and three sisters, named Феодор, Иван, Евдокия, Параскева and Екатерина.  He was the oldest of the six children.
