John Potwin Corrigan

John was born in January 1898. John's father is Charles E Corrigan and his mother is Alice Melita Potwin. His paternal grandparents are John Corrigan and Charolette Heffernan; his maternal grandparents are Henry Potwin and <Unknown>. He has a brother and three sisters, named Charles, Ruth, Mary and Francis. He is the second oldest of the five children.

- John attended Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD.
  
  He attended East Liberty Academy in Pittsburgh, PA.
  He attended Cornell University in Bachelor of Arts. He passed examinations in 1920.
  - Education Notes
    - Manager of the varsity baseball team, and upon his return from the service was elected manager of the "Masque." In 1920 he was nominated by the faculty of Cornell University to represent Pennsylvania in Rhodes Scholarship competition.

Occupation Details
- To February 1919 John's occupation was Commissioned Ensign for United States Navy, in USS Saranac.
  - Occupation Notes
    - Attached to the mine laying division, "suicide fleet," in the North Sea. This division accomplished work that by many naval authorities was deemed impossible, and its value in almost stopping enemy operations equalled that of any other single achievement of the war. Ensign Corrigan won high commendation from his superior officers for his devotion to duty.
  From April 7th, 1917 his occupation was Seamen for United States Navy, in USS Saranac.
