James' father was Taylor Loftin Mills Yielding and his mother was Susannah Permelia Miller. His paternal grandparents were Richard (Richard) J. Yielding and Millicent (Milly) Mills; his maternal grandparents were James A. Miller and Anna (Miller). He had six brothers and seven sisters, named John, Jasper, William, Rowlin, Elias, Bud, Elizabeth, Lira, Viney, Mary, Lucreasa, Annie and Susan. He was the second oldest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 90 on June 17th, 1922 in Hackleburg, Marion, Alabama, USA.
