Marie was born on December 8th, 1796.  Marie's father was Simon Pierre Richard and her mother was Scholastique Lemire.  Her paternal grandparents were Amand Richard and Anna Breaux; her maternal grandparents were Joachim  (Bénoni) dit Bénoni Lemire and Madeleine Melançon. She had three brothers and a sister, named Jean, Simon, Louis and Laurant.
