Jean was born in 1663 in Lyon, Rhone, Rhone-Alpes, France.  Jean's father was Mathieu Duon and his mother was Catherine Peyrieu. He had four brothers and a sister, named Jean, Jean, Antoine, Pierre and Jeanne.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 91 in 1754 in Port Royal, Acadia, Nova Scotia, Canada.
