Michel's father was Hans Tomson and his mother was Triin Kaup. His paternal grandfather is ? ? and his paternal grandmother was Marri Tomson. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Karl Georg, August, Julius, Wiido, Tio, Mina, Anna and Liisa Marie. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died due to leetrid at the age of 2 on March 22nd, 1878 in Tartumaa, Nõo kk, Aru.
