Epes' father was Epes Young and his mother was Nancy Gott. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named George, Albert, Deborah, Nancy, Nancy, Mercy, Eliza, Lucy and Sarah.  He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Sarah.  He died  due to consumption at the age of 45 on June 3rd, 1860 in Sharon, Norfolk, Massachusetts.  He was buried in Sharon, Massachusetts.² 

They had a son and a daughter, named William and Ann.
