Jean was born on June 30th, 1834 in Guthrie, Angus, Scotland.  Jean's father was John Allerdice and her mother was Amelia Walker.  Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Allardice and Jean Whanell. She had four brothers and four sisters, named James, John, David, Jonathan, Ann, Helen, Amelia and Elizabeth.  Helen and Jean were twins.  She died at the age of 43 in 1877 in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.1
