Gilbert was born on September 28th, 1595 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, , Scotland. Gilbert's father was James Primrose and his mother was Sibylla Miller. His paternal grandparents were David Primerose and Janet Blaw; his maternal grandfather is Miller. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Robert, Archibald, Nicholas, Alison, Janet, Grisel, Sibylla, Margaret, Elizabeth and KATHERINE. He died at the age of 45 on February 21st, 1641.-
