Sarah's father was James Henson and her mother was Mary Polly Lewis. Her maternal grandparents were James Theopholus Lewis Sr. and Winifred Winnie Henson. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Lewis, James, John, Ephorn Abba, Daniel, James Jack Henson, Jesse, Martha Patsy, Phebe, Winifred, Margaret Mary and Peggy. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Rachel.-
