Joan was born in 1252 in Helmsley Castle, Yorkshire, , England. Joan's father was Robert DeSt and her mother was Isabel D Aubigny. Her paternal grandparents were Sir William De Ros and Lucy Fitz Piers; her maternal grandparents were William D Aubigny Jr. and Albreda Biseth. She had two brothers and three sisters, named William, Robert, Mary, Isabel and Avelina. She was the oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 96 on October 13th, 1348 in Mitford, Suffolk, , England.-
