Maud was born in 1098 in Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, Bretagne, France. Maud's father was Stephen De Brittany and her mother was Hawise De Guincamp. Her paternal grandparents were Eudes Penthievre DeBrittany and Agnes Canhiart; her maternal grandfather is Mr De Guingampe. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Geoffrey I, Alan The, Henri I De, Alan III the Black, Agnorie, Matilda, Olive and Agnorie. She was the fourth youngest of the nine children. She died at the age of 41 in 1139 in Rouen, , Haute Normandy, France.-
