Rufus Andrew was born on September 4th, 1898 in Cleburne, Alabama, United States.1   Rufus Andrew's father was REUBEN Ashley and his mother was MARTHA "Mattie" Thompson.  His paternal grandparents were RUBEN Ashley and MINERVA Amanda Dunlap; his maternal grandparents were ABRAHAM Thompson and MARTHA Elizabeth Patsy Adams. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Martin Luther, Henry Robert, Joseph William, Viola Eugenia "Jennie", ALICE Burda Ann, Minnie Martha and Lelia M Beatrice.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 46 on May 21st, 1945 in Russellville, Franklin, Alabama, United States.2
