Narrative
It is believed the middle surname Whitfield was from famous preacher, Rev. Whitfield of that period.
He was sold into service during Civil War by his father, George Washington Goode, for $50.00.
He was a subsitute for Henry Jordan, an attorney, from a wealthy family.
Civil War: CSA Co. I, 34th Va Infantry, Wise's Brigade.
Prisoner of War (POW) captured at Farmville, Prince Edward Co, Va on April 6, 1865
Complexion: Fair, Hair: Dark, Eyes: Blue, Height: 5'9".
Adolphus did not return home until late in his life, a fractious, old and broken man.
He never forgave his father for selling him into the Army.
His mother, Martha Obedience Forsee, kept a candle in the window each night
for as long as she lived, hoping for his return.
