Ludwig, known as der Salier, was born about 1057 in Thuringia.1   Der Salier's father was Count Ludwig (mit Dem Barte) of Thuringia and his mother was Countess Cacilie of Sangerhausen. He had a sister named Hildegard.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died on May 8th, 1123.2
