Gerhard was born in 1057.¹

Gerhard's father was Duke Gerard of Upper Lorraine and his mother was Hedwige de Namur. His maternal grandparents were Adalbert de Namur II and Regilinde de Lorraine. He had a brother and a sister, named The Brave and Beatrix. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 64 in 1121.¹
