Raynier was born in 1070.1   Raynier's father was Marquis William de Montferrat and his mother was Otta d'Aglie.  His paternal grandparents were Marquis Otto de Montferrat II and <Unknown>.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 63 in 1133.1
