Hugh was born about 1175 in Bywell, Northumberland, England.1   Hugh's father was Eustace de Baliol and his mother was Petronell FitzPiers.  His maternal grandparents were Piers de Lutegareshale and Maud de Mandeville.  He was an only child.  He died about 1228.2
