Hermann was born in 1040 in Chateau de Salm, Luxembourg, Belgium.1   Hermann's father was Count Giselberg of Salm and his mother was <Unknown>.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 48 on September 28th, 1088 in Cochem, Rheinland, Prussia.1
