Her paternal grandparents were Count Billung von Saxony II and Frederunda Hildeburg; her maternal grandparents were Lothar von Stade I and Swanhilde von Hamaland. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Bernhard, Luitger, Wichman, Bernard I (Benno), Mathilde and Swanhilde. She was the third youngest of the seven children.
