Robert was born in 1205 in Shelton, Norfolk, England.1   Robert's father was Nicholas de Shelton and his mother was Beatrice.  His paternal grandparents were John de Shelton and <Unknown>. He had two brothers named Ralph and Nicholas.  He was the youngest of the three children.
