Adam was born in 1188 in Radcliffe, Lancashire, England.1 Adam's father was High Sheriff of Lancaster William de Radclyffe and his mother was Cecilia de Montbegon. His paternal grandparents were Henry de Radclyffe and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Adam Montbegon and Maud Fitzswaine. He had two brothers named Geoffrey and Hugh. He was the oldest of the three children.-
