William was born in 1190 in Notton, Royston, West Riding, Yorkshire, England.1   William's father was Gilbert de Notton and his mother was Juliana.  His paternal grandparents were Reginald de Notton and Leofwin. He had a brother named Gilbert.  He died at the age of 41 in 1231.1
