Janet was born in 1444 in Castle Huntly, Longforgan, Perthshire, Scotland. Janet's father was Sir Patrick de Grey and her mother was Annabella Forbes. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew de Grey and Elizabeth Wemyss. She had a brother and a sister, named Andrew and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the three children. She died at the age of 80 on October 21st, 1524 in Lovat Castle, Kilmorack, Invernesshire, Scotland.-
