William was born in 1160 in Burgh-Next-Aylsh, Norfolk, England.1 William's father was Walter de Burgh and his mother was Alice. His paternal grandparents were William Fitzaldhelm de Burgh and Juliana D'Aisnel. He had two brothers named Hubert and John. He was the oldest of the three children.
