Anne was born about 1528 in Healaugh, North Riding, Yorkshire, England. Anne's father was Thomas Wharton and her mother was Eleanor Stapleton. Her maternal grandparents were Bryan Of Wighill Stapleton and Jane Or Joan Threlkeld. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Thomas, Florence and Feorina (Frances).
