Basina was born in 0398 in Thuringia, Germany.1   Basina's father was Wedelphus von Saxe and her mother was Basina von Saxe.  Her paternal grandparents were Winithar Ostrogoths and <Unknown>. She had two brothers and a sister, named Adalbert, Basinus and Wedelphe.  She was the oldest of the four children.2
