Elizabeth's father was Ralph Thompson and her mother was Elizabeth Marsnett.  Her paternal grandparents were Maurice Thompson and Katherine Harvay. She had six brothers and a sister, named Maurice, George, Paul, Richard, William, Robert and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
