Robert was born on May 1st, 1869 in Taylor Co., KY.1 Robert's father was William G. Sprowls and his mother was Sarah "Sally" Underwood. His maternal grandparents were William C. Underwood and Mariah J. Druin. He had three brothers and six sisters, named James Marion, William L., John Proctor, Nancy Jane, Ursula, Mariah Elizabeth, Mary, Alice and Ellen. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.-
