His maternal grandparents were Calloway Underwood and Mary Ann "Polly" Oaks. He had a brother and a sister, named Henry Washington and Rosa Ellen. He was the youngest of the three children. He died in Taylor Co., KY. He was buried in Zion Separate Baptist Cemetery, Taylor Co., KY.-
