Wesley SKAGGS 
Wesley was born in August 1794 in KY. Wesley's father was Solomon Skaggs and his mother was Rhoda THOMPSON. His paternal grandparents were Henry (The Long Hunter) Skaggs and Mary Thompson. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Robert, John Wesley, Nancy, Sylvia, Margaret, Susannah and Marian. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He died after 1850 in Jefferson Co. MO. He was buried in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery Ware, Jefferson Co. MO.1 General Notes
Wesley was a veteran of the War of 1812 as shown by thefollowingrecords: (1) From Tennessee State Library &Archives:Wesley Scaggs,private, enlisted 20 Sept 1814, branch ofserv.-infantry. Remarks:Left sick at Ft. Montgomery. BountyLand Warrant 21701-80-55. (2) 9Dec 1850 - State of Indiana,Davis Co.: On this day personally appeardbefore me a Justiceof the Peace within and for said county and state,aforesaidWesley Skaggs, age 56 years, a resident of Daviscounty,Indiana, who being by me, duly sworn according to thesame,declares that he is the identical who was a private in thecompanycommanded by Capt. Zale Rains in Regt. commanded by Col.Leroy Hammondsin the War with Great Britian, declared by theUnited States on the18th day of June 1812, that he was draftedat Warren County, Tennesseeon or about the 20th day ofSeptember 1814 for the term of six monthsand continued inactual service in said war for the term of six monthsand washonorably discharged at Nashville 20th Jun 1815, as willappearby the muster rolls of said company on file in thewardepartment. He states that he received a discharge and that hegaveit to hisfather to keep and that his said father died withsaiddischarge in his possession and that it never could befound and thatis the reason he does not present it to thedepartment. He furtherstates that he never received from thegovernment any bounty landheretofore. He makes thisdeclaration for the purpose of obtaining thebounty land grantedby the act of Congress passed the 28th day ofSeptember 1850.(Signed) Wesley Skaggs Subscribed and sworn to beforeme the dayand year first above written. Living in the samehousehold with them istheir son, Solomon and his family. Listed areWesley Skaggs 65,Hannah 65, Solomon 39, Rebecca 37, Henry J. 10, MaryA. 8, JohnW. 5, George 2. Also living in Bourbon Co. KS in 1860 wasJamesSkaggs, son of Benjamin Skaggs. Wesley Skaggs' father andJamesSkaggs' father were 1st cousins.
