Susan was born in 1834 in Orange Co, NC.1 Susan's father was John W. Roberts and her mother was Judith Clement. Her paternal grandparents were William Roberts and Lucy Jane Umstead. She had three brothers and a sister, named Albert Clark, William C., John Elgin and Sarah A.. She was the oldest of the five children.1 General Notes
