Leod was born in 1200 in Balley Chashtal, Castletown, Isle of Man.1   Leod's father was King of the Isle of Man Olaf (The Black) Godredson and his mother was Christina MacAntagart. He had two brothers named Olaf and Magnus.  He was the youngest of the three children.
