Her paternal grandparents were William Newton and Hanna Rette Shipley. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William Frank, Lewis Edward, Clyde Elga, Albert, Alta J., Minta and Effie. She was the second youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 76 on May 23rd, 1974 in Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA.
