Alexander was born about 1529 in Of Sefton, Lardbrook, Lancashire, England. Alexander's father was Richard Molyneux and his mother was Eleanore Radcliffe. His maternal grandparents were Alexander Radcliffe and Alice Booth. He had eight brothers and eight sisters, named Richard, John, Anthony, William, James, Thomas, Robert, Arthur (Molineux), Anne, Alice, Maria, Margaret, Jane, Ellen Helen, Jane and Eleanor.
