William Franklin was born on July 17th, 1875 in , Crawford County, Arkansas, USA.1 William Franklin's father was David Walker LEWIS and his mother was Eliza Jane SHIPLEY. His maternal grandparents were Nathan Pascal SHIPLEY and Elizabeth Mildred LESTER. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Henry Davis Baskum, Moody, Sherman Darwin, Walker Harlin, Harvey Leander, Thomas Wesley, Joseph Webber, Roseltha Delcie, Lizzie and Gertrude Ellen. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 52 on February 28th, 1928 in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, USA.1 General Notes
Something is wrong with the information about this family. Pearlie Lee Tennessee Lewis is listed as widowed in the 1900 census when she is found living with her parents but then in 1920 she is listed with two Lewis sons born after 1900 so how could she be widowed? Also other researchers say that Franklin Lewis died in 1928 because of the Texas death certificate of a William Franklin Lewis born in 1875 in Arkansas to a father, D W Lewis and died 1928 in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas. The Franklin Lewis found in the 1880 census for Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas is not the Franklin who married Susie since his death record gives his full name as Frank Redmond Lewis b. 1873 and died 1958.
Arkansas Marriages 1851-1900 on Ancestry.com, c.1998-2000 MyFamily.com Inc. and its subsidiaries lists a marriage for Franklin A. Lewis and Tennie McCaslin the 4th of May, 1896 in Crawford County, Arkansas, USA. His name is definitely written Franklin A. Lewis in the original marriage record for Franklin and Tennie.
It is not proved that William Franklin Lewis is the same person as Franklin Lewis, son of David Walker Lewis but I am now using his birth and death dates for Franklin A. Lewis. It appears they are the same person. I have found no other Franklin Lewis who fits William Franklin Lewis. Did he change his name to William Franklin???? It appears from the death certificate for William Franklin Lewis that he was mentally ill. He was said to be insane for several years before he drowned himself. Elizabeth Lewis, sister to Franklin A. Lewis also killed herself.
