Sir James Learmonth 
Sir James was born about 1490 in Balcomie Castle, Crail, Fifeshire, Scotland. Sir James' father was Provost of St. Andrews David Learmonth and his mother was Anna Kinnimonth. His paternal grandparents were Provost of St. Andrews Robert Learmonth and Beatrice Martine. He had a brother and a sister, named Robert and Beatrice. He was the youngest of the three children. He died on September 10th, 1547 in Battle of Pinkie Cleugh.General Notes
James Learmonth of Dairsie and Balcomie, succeeded before 1525 (Exchequer Rolls, xv, 103); Provost of St Andrews, 1526-44 (Parliaments of Scotland, ii, 417); Master of the King’s Houshold, 1537 (ibid); witness to the will of James V (GD124/10/13); Ambassador to conclude the marriage between Queen Mary and Edward, Prince of Wales in 1542 (ibid); purchased the feu of St Nicholas in 1529; had sasine of Dron; had charter of land of Kilmynanane and of the lands of Pittendreich (RD1/37; CC20/11/1; RH6/1210; Acts of Parliament); slain at the battle of Pinkie in 1547 (Exchequer Rolls xviii, 447). He married (i) Catherine Ramsay and (ii) Grizel Meldrum.
