Captain Samuel Kerr RWS
Samuel was born about November 29th, 1741 in
Augusta Co, VA. Samuel's father was
Samuel Kerr and his mother was
Margaret Pickens. His paternal grandparents were
James Kerr and
Martha Ball. He had a brother and two sisters, named
William,
Agness and
Lucia. He was the oldest of the four children. He died after December 12th, 1780 in
Battle of Long Canes, Ninety-Six Distr, SC.

I did a quick bit of research on the battle of Long Cane mentioned in our email correspondence below, and I find it was actually on 12 and not 2 December 1780--which makes it all the more plausible, I think, to suppose Samuel Kerr may have been wounded in the battle and then have died of his wounds in 1781.
More than that, histories show that Elijah Clarke led the American forces in this battle, and as you're reminded me, David Kerr's Revolutionary pension claim indicates he served under Capt. Samuel Kerr in a unit commanded by Col. Elijah Clarke. I would say Samuel died sometime between 12 Dec. 1780 and early 1781, very likely at home at Long Cane.
