Owain Cyfeiliog ap was born in 1125 in Powys, Montgomeryshire, Wales. Owain Cyfeiliog ap's father was Gruffydd ap Maredudd Lord of Mowddwy and his mother was Gwerful verch Gwrgeneu. His paternal grandparents were Maredudd ap Bleddyn Prince of Powys and Hunydd verch Einudd. He had two brothers named Rhirid Foel ap and Cadfan ap. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 72 in 1197 in Monastery Of Strata Marcella.1 General Notes
