Newton Armistead was born on September 11th, 1874 in Fort Porter, Buffalo, Erie, N. Y.. Newton Armistead's father was James Morehead GORE and his mother was Cornelia Love NEWTON. His paternal grandparents were John Henry GORE and Lucy Armistead MOREHEAD. He had a brother named James Morehead. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 62 on June 6th, 1937 in Rancho Los Amigos, Hondo, CA.. He was buried on June 10th, 1937 in Valhalla Cem., Burbank, CA..General Notes
His occupation in 1900 was Watchman, US Engrs. and he lived with his grandmother in San Pedro, Wilmington District, L.A., CA. In the 1920 census he was a patient in the L.A. County Hospital and it states he was a widower, but he could have been divorced.
