Susan was born in 1671 in Gloucester, Virginia.1   Susan's father was James Richard Foster and her mother was Susannah (Susan, Anne) Garnett. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Richard, Robert, Thomas, John, Mary and Ellen.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
