Mary was born in 1664 in Block Island, Newport Co, Rhode Island, USA.1 Mary's father was William COHOON and her mother was Deliverance. Her maternal grandparents were Joseph Peck and Hannah Cooper. She had eight brothers named Archibald, Agnus, Samuel, William, Joseph, James, John and Nathaniel. She was the oldest of the nine children. She had a half-sister named Deliverence.
