James Butler 
James was born in 1361 in Kilkenny, Ireland.1 James' father was James Butler and his mother was Elizabeth Darcy. His paternal grandparents were 1st Earl of Ormond James Butler and Eleanor de Bohun; his maternal grandparents were 1st Baron Darcy de Knayth John D'Arcy and Joan de Burgh. He had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Felice, Eleanor and Joan. He was the second youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 44 on September 6th, 1405 in Gowran Castle, Kilkenny, Ireland.1 General Notes
James Butler, 3rd Earl of Ormonde was born before 1376 and died on 6 September 1405. He was the son of James Butler, 2nd Earl of Ormonde and Elizabeth Darey. He married Anne Welles, daughter of John de Welles, 4th Lord Welles and Maud de Ros, before 17 June 1386. They had three children.
Lord Ormonde, who built the castle of Gowran and made it his usual residence, was commonly called Earl of Gowran. He purchased by deeds, from the heirs of Sir Hugh le Despencer , Earl of Gloucester, the Castle of Kilkenny. In 1392, he was appointed Lord Justice of Ireland.
